The electrodes on the sintered cap are not detachable. The whole cap can be washed.

Yes, your board has to be in bootloader mode. Plug in the battery, press the PROG and RST buttons simultaneously, set the switch to PC, then release the RST button, followed by the PROG button.

These are dry EEG electrodes, so no gel is needed with them. The coating doesn't "fall out" per se, but wears down microscopically over time.
