Applying for Ethical Clearance
Hi.
I am using an OpenBCI cap to take some measurements of participants while they view a stimulus for my neuropsychology thesis.
My ethical application has come back asking:
"Please outline the experience of the research team in conducting experiments using EEG equipment."
My experience is limited to watching a lot of youtube tutorials and mucking around with my setup at home for the past year. I feel quite confident in setting it up and achieving appropriate channel fidelity etc.
I am struggling to find any short online courses that can give me some form of certificate to say I know how to put on an EEG cap and clean it between sessions etc. Ethics panels always like official certificates...
Has anyone completed a short official course in EEG application that they can recommend? Or have you had a similar issue and can advise how you addressed their concerns.
Thanks in advance...
Richard

Richard, hi.
By "ethical application", are you referring to an IRB, Institutional Review Board process?

One scientific organization I'm aware of, JoVE, does have a number of clinical skills courses / lessons online. Not sure if they issue 'certificates'.

Here is what comes up on a search for EEG. You may want to refine the search scope. Note that they have sections for both 'Education' and 'Research', with both categories showing clinical skills.

As one example of their exceptional quality, I recall this excellent tDCS tutorial that Marom Bikson and Felipe Fregni put together in 2011. Both of these guys have published a great deal on tDCS research, and Bikson even founded a related instrumentation company: Soterix.

If JoVE does not suffice for your situation, you might ask around in a related department at your university. To determine if you could 'intern' in their EEG lab for a few days to show your skills. They would then vouch for you.
