EEG cap - electrode placement between persons

Hello!
I will soon be studying EEG activity from multiple participants. I plan to use the OpenBCI electrode cap, as I dread the idea of measuring for electrode placement at every setup. I have two questions about the caps going into this:

  1. Do I need to worry about the slight difference in electrode placement between participants? I will be correlating EEG activity amongst my sample of participants.
  2. On top of that, do I need to have multiple cap sizes, or can I make the large cap work for smaller heads somehow?

I've not used the caps OpenBCI is currently selling. But I have used Electro-caps. The medium cap size in that will fit many 'average' heads. But there are those with really fat heads, where it will not fit. Generally you'll only need the small cap for children.

10-20 point locations are actually easier than you might think. See videos here,

When you fit the cap, just ensure that the 'landmark' points are where you expect, and everything else will line up:

    • Fp1 and Fp2
    • Cz at top of head
    • T3, T4 over tops of ears
    • O1, O2 at rear

Thank you for the insight William.
I may still end up getting both a medium and a large cap, but its nice to know that placing individual electrodes wouldn't be too time consuming, if need be.
