Error in processConnect: RESP_ERROR_UNABLE_TO_CONNECT While Connecting OpenBCI GUI to Wifi Shield

I am receiving the following error after establishing connection between openBCI GUI and Wifishield and when I start the system I receive the following message ....

Error in processConnect: RESP_ERROR_UNABLE_TO_CONNECT

    Hamza, hi.

    Is this a Wifi Shield purchased from OpenBCI? Has it ever worked under any circumstances? Have you tried connecting from other laptops / other operating systems?

    Yes we are using WiFi shield provided by OpenBCI.
    It never worked so we upgrade the firmware by programming it Over The Air (OTA).
    Now it is connected to the OpenBCI GUI and the wifi sheild is detected in the OpenBCI GUI .... after selecting UDP as Transfer Protocol

    We are using Cyton board , Tried Several Versions of OpenBCI GUI and OpenBCI HUB , The wifi detected is OpenBCI B4A7 .
    We have only tried it on Windows 10 but on more than one laptops but we are still facing the Error mentioned above .

    We are facing this error currently on OpenBCI GUI 3.3.1 and Hub version 1.3.2

    I suggest you email contact at openbci.com and explain your situation. Mentioning @openbci.

    I'm still a bit confused though as to what hardware you are using. On a previous thread, you mentioned that you were attempting to upload Wifi Shield firmware to an Adafruit Huzzah board. Is that what your current situation refers to, or are you using an actual OpenBCI manufactured Wifi Shield?


    If you are having issues with a do-it-yourself version of the Wifi Shield, you may be encountering problems with your wiring, components, etc. That are not present on the actual OpenBCI hardware. Contact at openbci.com cannot generally debug issues related to do-it-yourself hardware, because there are so many variables.

    Thank you for your concern , We were programming ESP8266 through Arduino IDE for that purpose to compile DefaultWifiShield.ino We Selected the Adafruit Huzza board as mentioned in the tutorial to which link is provided below


    After programming the ESP8266 Wifi Module , it is labeled as OpenBCI B4A7 in the devices detected in the Wifi pan and it is connected to the openBCI GUI , but after we start the system we receive the error mentioned below ..... The OpenBCI Board is detected only when UDP is selected as transfer protocol it is not detected when TCP or UDP 3x is selected as tranfer protocol .

    Has your Wifi Shield been OTA uploaded (flashed) with the .bin file listed here?


    Or did you upload from source that you compiled yourself?

    Have you tried emailing contact at openbci.com?

    Yes ,  Wifi Shield has been successfully OTA uploaded with the DefaultWifiShield.2.0.5.bin

    Not Yet , I emailed them hopefully I get reply , I will get here as soon as they reply me

    I emailed @openbci but I have not received any reply yet ....

    Currently I am receiving this on the log please check this out , I think the hardware may not be responding or there may be some connection problem but I am still confused please check it out @wjcroft ;

    Error in processConnect: RESP_ERROR_UNABLE_TO_CONNECT
    openBCI_GUI: haltSystem: Halting system for reconfiguration of settings...
    OpenBCI_GUI: stopRunning: stop running...
    Closing any open SD file. Writing 'j' to OpenBCI.


    These the last few lines I see on the log where you can see the Error in ProcessConnect and after that system stops

    Are you running the OpenBCI apps as Administrator (or root / sudo on Linux, Mac)? Sometimes that is necessary to avoid permissions issues.

    I have not checked it out in any other OS except for Windows 10 . On windows I am running it as an administrator .

    Have you tried sending a message to AJ @pushtheworld ? He might have some insights as he is the developer of both the firmware and the app.

    Click on his name, then the Message button.

    If he provides a solution, post it here on this thread.

    Sounds like the hub is failing to connect to the board. Are you able to examine the board using the configuration box on the drop downs on the GUI startup page?
