Filtering user movement "noise" / artifacts

edited August 2018 in Software
Hello,

I hope I'm posting in the right sub-forum, please redirect me if needed !
As part of an end-of-studies project, we are a group of students looking for ways to categorize fear with EEG headsets.

We did some early testing with another EEG headset that we had disponibility of (Emotiv EPOC). The first thing we noticed and that is worrying us is the impact of movement on the raw data. Of course, facial movement is expected to have a lot of impact (due to some of the electrodes being directly on the face), but even moving a leg, an arm or sitting down is making quite a lot of noise. Because we want to avoid this noise as much as possible, and because the Emotiv headset does not allow to filter it, we are looking into other ways of collecting EEG data.

So, two questions :

• Is filtering "noise" from movements even possible ? Maybe only if we cross-check it with EMG data ?
• Does the OpenBCI headset/software allow for some easy filtering of this noise ?

Apologies if this seems really basic but we are barely starting with this technology.
Thanks in advance
