BLE OFF PC switch purpose

edited August 2018 in Cyton
Hi All,

Does anybody know what was the purpose of the switch?

states "Swtiching either BLE or PC will produce the same result. The option is available for future development…"

The reason of my question is I'm thinking to insert another controller between PIC and rfDuino.
Since, the switch is connected to rfDuino, I assume, I could create an extra connection for PC(or controller) and change the firmware of rfDuino to shut down radio in "PC" mode.

Just wanted to ask before doing some crazy hacks if the change cold be beneficial to the community.

Thanks and looking forward for thoughts!

When that hardware switch was designed, it was thought there might eventually be firmware that could easily switch between the GZLL protocol and BLE protocol. This turned out to be much harder than thought.

  • Thank you for the answer!

Are there any plans to proceed with this approach?

I know, Cyton has a debug mode in v3, where D11 and D12 are an external UART.
This is good enough for me right now, but you're welcome to throw any suggestions my way ;)

    Thanks

You can use the switch however you like.
