Cyton-ATmega, incompatible with new GUI?

I have an 8-bitt board (older version) and trying to run on Windows the OpenBCI_GUI most recent software; however it is failing to run and giving me a "serial port connection error". When I run the older OpenBCI_GUI software thru IP3 processing the connection works. Am I able to run the old hardware with the new software? If so, how do I go about fixing the serial port connection error?

    I don't even know if the latest GUI versions are compatible with the V1 32-bit (chipKIT) Cyton firmware. V1 chipKIT and V1 ATmega at least had compatible serial port stream formats. V2 and V3 chipKIT (and dongle) firmware added a huge number of changes; which the newer GUIs interface with.

    The ATmega Cyton has been deprecated and is not actively supported.

    I have not seen this issue with the new software so i'm not too sure. I would not recommend using the new software without testing with the NodeJS cyton driver. At the core of the new software is this dependency that if isnt able to run, will never work in the GUI.
