"No daisy board present" error

I am trying to use the Daisy board to measure 16 channels.  I just downloaded OpenBCI GUI version 2.1.2.  When connecting, I select the appropriate serial port and pick the 16 channels button.  After pressing start, I see this message in the status bar:
"No daisy board present.  Make sure you selected the correct number of channels."

Any tips?

Is this a new Daisy, which I think comes pre-soldered? Or did you have to solder the headers on the Daisy yourself? Have you tried powering everything down, removing and re-seating the Daisy, then power up? Do you know what Cyton firmware you have?

Is the GUI seeing the board ok with just 8 channels?

  • When I got the Daisy board, we had to solder on the headers.  Everything works fine without the Daisy.

I just tried again, and it's doing other strange things.  It starts up fine with 16 channels, except channels 9-16 are giving the same output as channels 1-8.  Any activity on the Daisy board's pins are not responding, just activity on the main board.  I've attached a picture that shows the duplication.image

Has your Daisy EVER worked correctly, or is a new development?

  • I'm sure this is the first time that we've tried to use it.

Check these threads and possibly rework some of the solder joints,

  • Strange.  It's back to saying "No daisy board present".  I'll take a look at the solder joints and see if anything is wrong.

To clarify, there are two headers to solder: The 8-pin header with DVDD - CSC, and the 2-bin header with BIAS and AGND?

Are any of the electrode pins required to be connected to something for testing basic functionality?  Right now, I've been testing it with no electrodes connected, just checking if the system comes up at all.

    Thanks,

  • We found it.  Turns out, we missed the two 2-pin headers by the 90° electrode connections.

    User error, sorry to bother!
