No more signal after 1 minute?

edited May 2017 in Cyton
Hi everyone.

I have had a problem since last week with my openbci board. In the beginning of the recorded file the signals were ok but it is written NEAR RAILED or RAILED, and after almost 1 minute of test there is no more signal. Does anybody know what is the problem?

I have performed some tests to verify if the openbci board was working or not. First of all, I put all the electrodes together and saw that all the values from each electrode was almost 0uV, in this case I think its ok. After this I placed the same electrodes on the scalp of a person and two more electrode on the ear. These two electrodes connected on the ear was connected to SRB and BIAS

Thank you in advance and I hope that someone can help me.

Your 0 uV test sounds OK. What did you then see after attaching electrode to scalp and SRB2 / Bias on ear lobes? Is that where you saw the RAILED? Can you clarify what you mean by "after 1 minute of test there is no more signal"?

  • @wjcroft, thank you for your answer.

When I started the test I saw signals on OpenBCI_GUI, but some of them were written RAILED instead of the uV. During 1 minutes it was possible to see some brain waves even with the word RAILED. After 1 minute there was no brain signal and the word RAILED was there.

Are your batteries fresh? The earlier V1 firmware did have a tendency to lock up the radio link after maybe an hour of continuous use. But not after only 1 minute. Are ALL channels railing or only some? Your test of connecting all leads (channel, SRB2, Bias), works perfectly. Does it also stop working at the 1 minute point? What firmware do you have, sounds like V1.

  • Hi @wjcroft

Here follows the answers of your questions:

    Are your batteries fresh?
    Yes, they are.

Does it also stop working at the 1 minute point?
No, when I performed this test od connecting all leads it worked just fine, it did not stop after one minute.

What firmware do you have, sounds like V1.
    Yes, my fimware is V1

Is there anything else I can do?

Have you tried using the CHAN SET tab to turn off the channels you are not using?

Are ALL channels railing, or only some?

Have you tried your test on another laptop to rule out USB or OS issues?

  • Hi @wjcroft

I think the problem was related to the headset that I was using to performe the experiments. I have tried with the ultracortex IV and it worked just fine.

I still need to find the problem with the other headset, but for now evertything is ok.

    Thank you for your help.
