Neurofeedback Protocol to reward SMR and inhibit Theta

edited April 2017 in Cyton
Hey there!

I have a Cyton Board, and I need some guidance with executing a NFB protocol.
Let's say, for instance, that I want to run an SMR protocol. So that would mean maximize amplitude between 12-15hz (SMR/Alpha) on C4, and minimize amplitude 4-7hz (Theta) on C4.

Here's how I would go about it:
- Take a measuring band, and take the point at 50% between the Inion and the Nasion, then 30% of the distance between the upper base of the ears, on the right side. That would give me the exact position of C4 in the 10-20 System, right?
- Apply the electrode connected to the 7N pin on the C4 Spot. I would hold it in place with a headband that goes around the head and chin (vertically)
- Apply the SRB2 Electrode to my right earlobe, and the BIAS electrode to my left ear.

Now, wouldn't I just be able to look at the FFT Plot in the standard OpenBCI software, and try to increase the SMR Amplitude and decrease the Theta amplitude for 7N pin? So, basically, make the line go up on one band, and make it go down on the other one?

I tried just that, and I don't seem to be able to have any conscious influence on the plot. When I move my arms, the amplitude increases, but that is just due to the movement of the cables... There seems to be an oscillation in amplitude between 1 and 10 uV per bin, but there is a pattern that I cannot seem to influence.

Has anyone any experience with executing a Neurofeedback protocol?

I have ported all the data in Unity, and I'd like to make my own little NFB software, so I'm going to refrain from using other software. But theoretically, you should be able to NFB on the standard OpenBCI software, right?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I feel stuck on this problem, and there is barely documentation in that regard.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Cheers,
Luc
