Error connecting to serial port. Try a different port?

I have a cyton 32 bit system. I tried connecting cyton with the desktop computer. For this when I connected USB dongle with the desktop computer as per the instructions in the OPENBCI/downloads.com website, the blue led on the USB dongle glows and also COM 16 is visible under 'ports' in 'device manager'. USB Dongle is switched to GPIO 6 as instructed.

However, when I opened OpenBCI GUI and selected 'live(from cyton)', com16 and checked the status I get the message as "Error connecting to serial port. Try a different port?". I even tried plugging the USB dongle in all the desktop computer ports and the effect is still the same. Can somebody help to solve this issue of error in connecting?

I also hv the same problem. When i click button status, it show "Error reading to serial port. Try a different port?".

Is anyone know how to fix this problem? I really need help.
  • me too on a mac
  • oops  I do have the observed problem when I go into the radio submenu and try scanning or checking the connection.  BUT if I just autostart the system having selected the tty I think it should be, and wait long enough (several minutes) it will start the electrode display.  the error seems in the radio checking interface for me.  using a macbook 2016 with osx sierra (10.12.4 currently)
the same problem does occur if I setup everything with Processing and run the GUI from a sketch.
and the same problem does occur if I run from windows in parallels.   not so urgent since I can run the system anyway for now.

The same problem "Error connecting to serial port. Try a different port?", who found the solution?
How to check individually USB dongle and cyton 32 bit?
Windows does not complain on USB dongle.
    System: Windows 7 64bit

The problem solved with the reinstallation of the operating system Windows
  • i have the same issue;
i'm using a windows 10 with a cyton board  connecting through the dongle, on a fresh install.

  • can somebody give me some tips?
at the moment I tried all the ports, reinstalled the app. the dongle flashes the led red for a bit, but then it stays blue( on the description says that blue it's ok) .
Also the drivers for the dongle seem to have worked out ok, as they show up in the hub, and in the device manager as explained.
Did I miss some error or something?
Is there other software that might still work if opengui app does not work? I am willing to learn another language or smth , in order to use this.
    Please any help is appreciated.
