error at running 64bit OpenBCI_GUI.exe

edited November 2016 in OpenBCI_GUI
Hello OpenBCI community,

I am attempting to install a OpenBCI 32-bit Board Kit that I purchased October 2014 for the first time - I know, a tad late.

I am running OpenBCI_GUI.exe for 64bit on my 64 bit computer, but the window opens and closes fast creating an error log. I am attaching below the beginning and end of the log.

Is this a common error that you can pattern match? How to proceed?

Thank you,
Nicoara

    Nicoara, hi.

Are you installing the GUI from the source code, as outlined here,

Users have occasionally had difficulty with some of the pre-built Downloads on this page,

So installing directly from source is usually the solution.

    William
  • Hello William,

    Thanks for the reference!

    Sorry for the late response.
    After copying the instructions there
    (I have folders C:\Users\nicoara\Documents\Processing\OpenBCI_GUI, C:\Users\nicoara\Documents\Processing\libraries\controlP5, C:\Users\nicoara\Documents\Processing\libraries\gwoptics)
and pressing run on C:\Users\nicoara\Documents\Processing\OpenBCI_GUI\ControlPanel.pde, it throws the following errors in Processing:

    "
    No library found for ddf.minim.analysis
    No library found for ddf.minim.ugens
    No library found for controlP5
    No library found for ddf.minim.analysis
Libraries must be installed in a folder named 'libraries' inside the 'sketchbook' folder.

    "

I have not been able to figure out what the problem is.
    Do you know?

    Thank you,

    Nicoara

  • Hello wjcroft,
Thank you for helping me, the second link fixed the error.

Unfortunately, I have a new error now. The window for openbci opens quickly then crashes. I have looked online for help, it seems to be an opengl problem. Also, it may be relevant that ControlP5 has an orange exclamation next to it in the libraries section of Processing, even when I update it at 2.2.6. The crast message is as follows:

    "Could not run the sketch

    Do you have advice?

  • Restarting the entire process again, somehow the error disappeared. For completion, I solved for ddf.minim.analysis by installing the library Minim from the Import Library. Thank you

Most of the time you can fix this problem by uninstalling the Java runtime and then reinstalling it all over again.  If you have both 32- and 64-bit applications that need to use Java, then you’ll need to download and install both versions of the Java runtime. Hopefully, this will fix your problem. Sometimes this error can be caused by not having enough system memory allocated to the Java Virtual Machine – or not enough system memory. In this case try the following :

Tap on Windows-Pause to open the System Control Panel applet. You can alternatively open the control panel manual to go there if you prefer it that way.
Click on advanced system settings on the left.
    Select environmental variables here.
Click on new under System Variables.
Enter _JAVA_OPTIONS as the variable name.
Enter -Xmx512M as the variable value.
    Click ok twice.

This allows up to 512MB to be allocated to the Java virtual machine. You can experiment with different values, if required. That's it, your Java program should now be able to execute properly.

For those interested, Java -Xmx/s is the configuration parameter that control the amount of memory Java uses.

Xmx sets the maximum heap memory size
Xms sets the minimum heap memory size
