Hello guys!
Recently my university acquired the "Ultracortex" Mark IV "EEG Headset" for 16 channels! We also bought the Cyton board 32bits.

I was as responsible for "assembling" the equipment!

I followed the tutorial step by step -> http://docs.openbci.com/Tutorials/01-Cyton_Getting Started_Guide

I've done exactly everything correct (including the FTDI driver) but I'm having problems!

When I open the OpenBCI app I can connect exactly like in the tutorial but the readings are not transmitted to my computer.

Do I need to install any firmware on my Cyto board?
How can I solve this problem?

Can you try on another computer or OS? What hardware / OS are you running?
  • Hello wjcroft!

    The configuration I am running is -> Ubuntu 64bits, core i5 3330, 4gb ram

I've run test on 2 defending computers, the operating system is the same ubuntu 64bits (They are from the lab of my University)

It really is very strange this problem because I followed exactly the step by step

    An observation I make!
The kit that was purchased is for 16 channels (with the daisy module). I have not tested the cyto Board with the daisy module plugged into it.

Can you try with WIndows or Mac?

With Ubuntu, is the OpenBCI dongle showing up in /dev/tty* when you plug it in?
  • Yes! The OpenBCI dongle is "displayed" as up in / dev / ttyusb0!

I have not yet tested on Windows or MAC.

Next Monday (Feb / 20) I will have access to the lab to perform the test on Windows or MAC
  • Hello wjcrof! I tested it on Windows 7 and the equipment worked. Unfortunately the openBCI GUI has some bugs!

Remembering I'm still experiencing problem in Ubuntu 64bits

With Ubuntu it may be best to go with the LTS Long Term Support version. Rather than the latest greatest. Which might not be tested with FTDI drivers. My understanding is that the built in driver in Linux may handle the Cyton, without needing the FTDI version. You could try that configuration.
