Can one Ultracortex size fit both 53 and 56.5mm heads?

My head is 56.5cm, and my son's is 53cm. I don't want to have to buy 2 different Ultracortex's for 2 such similarly-sized heads. Is it possible to fit a 56.5cm head into a small or a 53cm head into a medium? Are there any hacks to help accomplish this?

If not, is it possible to share the Ganglion board between 2 different headsets? (So I could buy a medium, and just print off a 2nd small?)

    Caleb, hi.

    Mentioning @Conor.

You can move the Ganglion board easily between the two headsets. It would not be so easy to move all the electrodes back and forth between two sized frames on a frequent basis. So may be best to have both frames populated with their electrode parts.

Conor may have insight on your first question about the size adjustment range to be able to accommodate both heads on a single frame.

Thanks for the response @wjcroft. Ya, I was worried it might be difficult to move all the electrodes between the 2 headsets. I'd prefer to be able to get 2 sets of the electrodes then, or else get a single headset that fits both head sizes.

With the Ganglion there are only 4 electrodes. But there are many other of the headset site locations that contain padding / cushioning inserts. So yes, having to move all those back and forth and adjust them each time would get tiresome.

@wjcroft I was looking at the Ultracortex Mark IV - isn't that either an 8 or 16 electrode headset?

Yes, sorry I should have clarified that the Ganglion is 4 channels not 4 electrodes. The Mark IV comes with 8 or 16 electrodes, you choose. So you'll have some extra sites you can wire up and switch quickly in or out of the pins on the board.

  • Hi Caleb. Mark IV designer here. The "virtual" scalp surface where the electrodes would contact at the middle of their adjustment range has a circumfrence of 552mm (large is 615mm and small is 489mm). While reducing the fit of a 3D array of electrodes to a single number is a simplification, the numbers you mentioned are very close, so the medium should be ideal for both of you with minimal adjustment.
