No EEG signal (.1 uV only), on new board

edited November 2015 in Cyton
Hi everyone,

I'm having a problem with the initial setup of my openBCI board. I'm using a 8 channel 32 bit board and Mac OS X. I got to the point where you sync the dongle to the board by using the software. The only problem is that I can't get any data after that. Initially, all eight channels show some readings and after a second, they all settle to 0.10 uVrms +- 0.02 uVrms.

Things I've tried:
The way that I can get it to show a signal is by using a multimeter on Diode Test mode:
  • By connecting multimeter positive to SRB1 and negative to N1 I get the signal to "RAILED"
  • By connecting multimeter negative to the Bias and tapping the positive to N1 I get timagehe signal up to 200 uVrms before going back to normal
I'm I doing something wrong? Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Eddie

    I'm seeing exactly the same. Just received a new board last week.

    I spoke with @tonyf today. Really unsure as to what the issue is. He will be sending back the board that he has for us to debug here in the lab.

    @elizondo93, could you do a test for me on your end? Please re-program the board, following the instructions here
    and let us know if that changes anything.

    @elizondo @tonyf

    In diagnosing this problem, could you both tell me what radio channel you have? It is noted on the static baggie sticker 'Channel n"

    Thanks
  • Mine is in the post. You should have it tomorrow. I did successfully re-program the board, but in my case made no difference. Thanks, Tony

    Thanks @tonyf ;
    I'm going to visit our fulfillment center to examine the hardware we have in stock to see if I can replicate the problem.

    Sorry for the late response! I just did a re-programming of the board with the same results. I get the same initial burst of data, that settles to .1 uV after a second (like in my picture). I have a video of it too, if you want it, I can upload it to youtube.

    My board is Channel 5.

    I also took the liberty of sending back the board (with the dongle, daisy, and battery pack - I kept the rest) to the fulfillment center. I would really appreciate if you guys can take a look at it!

    Thanks for your quick response,
    Eddie

    Forgot to add: The board should be there within two business days and it's under my name: "Eduardo Elizondo"

    Shout out to the rest of the forum:

    If you are having this problem, please hold on to your tech!

    We will be shipping out replacement systems with return labels very soon.

    OpenBCI Team
  • Received the new board and all is working well! Thanks for the quick turnaround.
  • Unfortunately it seems, that I have same problem. I just should be waiting for replacement and then send my board back to you, right? Is Daisy module affected or is it just board iself? Is there any way to fix it at home, since shipping to and from Russia is expensive in terms of time and money.

    Hello,

    I seem to have the same exact problem. Nice to here that the issue is resolved.

    Would you guys ship out the system with return labels automatically? How should we get the replacement systems?

    Just like the post above by Lua_b, is there any way to fix here?

    How long would it take for the replacement system to arrive to Austin, TX?

    Sincerely,
    Jihoon

    @Lua_b

    You should have received an email from me requesting your reply so that we can get the tech turned around for you.
    Please reply here if you DID NOT receive the email.

    @zj2050, hi. I see you have resolved your earlier issue of not being able to connect with the OpenBCI_GUI.

    Was this board purchased recently from the OpenBCI store? (Or was it used; as another of your earlier posts was looking for used equipment.) My impression is that this .1 uV problem was only happening briefly during November / December 2015. And was then corrected. None of the currently shipping boards should behave like this.

    Do you see any larger signals when you have electrodes connected to say SRB2 (pin closest to board) and one of the channels (pins closest to board). For example holding the two leads in opposite hands should pickup some noise and ECG.

  • @wjcroft yes ,thanks reply, my board is shipped on : 11/20/2015, and the sales form printed 11/20/2015 13:48,
    is from 1121 industrial parkway brick township NJ 08724
  • the order number : 1735
  • no larger signals when you have electrodes connected to say SRB2, and also no signal when running fingers along the electrode pins
  • @wjcroft Hi,wjcroft , How can i do next step ?
  • biomurphbiomurph Brooklyn, NY
    @zj2050
    I will email you on the address that you specify above to resolve this issue.
  • biomurph  thanks , please send it to my email : [email protected]

    @swap, hi. Send an email to contact at openbci.com and reference this thread.

    Have you tried reflashing the firmware on the board?
