PIC Headers

The two PIC headers supplied with OpenBCI 32-bit are 5-pin ones, whereas there're only four holes in each row on the PCB.

Why is that?

Probably just what was in stock at the parts distributor. On the male headers these are easy to clip off with diagonal cutters, there is an indent in the plastic to facilitate this.

The dongle has 5 and 7 pin headers. The daisy headers are 8 and 2 pin.

  • Female headers are not easy to cut. Fortunately, it's easy to cut the extra pin off and there's enough space to squeeze in a 5-pin header.

Right. My misstatement regarding male/female. My kit did have the 4 pin female headers. Your workaround sounds good. It does also seem possible that male headers could be used in those positions, in a pinch.
