wearing oculus rift like vr devices with openbci

edited August 2014 in Other Platforms
As neural-motor prediction gets better, EEG might become a good candidate to be the controller for vr devices.
Does the current openbci design have any capability to hook a VR set to the front, using the electrode tentacles for support? If not, can this be a possibility in future versions?

  • I dont have have a VR device or a EEG device yet! But I know that ,the VR machine is independent from the EEG.
Is like you say that you have the keyboard and you want to build a screen on the keyboard.

This is two different device. The EEG is input and the VR output. So if you are a programmer , and you can find librarys or build your own librarys , you can do it yourself a programme that use this two together. If you are , buy a VR and a EEG and see what you can do!
  • Thanks for the motivation, but I do not agree with your analogy, I'll draw an alternate one. I am saying I want to use a screen and a keyboard together. Right now the keyboard is such that it takes the whole table by itself so that I cannot put the screen on the table. Same goes for the screen too, if I wear the VR hooking EEG would be difficult. I am asking if it possible to have a hardware design that accommodates both VR and EEG, more like can the keyboard have a stand for the screen so that i can put a screen (totally optional). If it would be a huge stretch I understand, but there would be more people like me who want to use the screen and the keyboard both.
  • No. It does not have that functionality.
No. It probably will never have that either. At least not directly.

I have a 16 channel EEG & Google glass, so I do a bit of interfacing between the two; although my eye is set toward the rift.

If you were to do what you're talking about, then you'd just cut a few holes in the straps of the rift and implement the EEG. You'd want to tighten that sucker up too as I'm sure it moves around.
