how can i request a free board/sample

hello, good day,
i am arun magesh doing my electrical enginering at india, i am so much intrested in BCI, i bought Mindwave neurosky with all my pennies i saved  but later found it is not feasible to use it with hardware hacks. less no of channels and noise, etc. i would like to request you to provide me a free board for a maker like me, even in exchange of my mindwave,
i have abit of experience in hardware and bio electronics.

Thank you

  • Actually the Mindwaves can be hacked. Most people do the mobile sync one, but with an arduino it wouldn't take too long with the regular.

If OpenBCI is giving away free $500 boards, I'd like one too ; )
It's a shame that it probably only costs them $40 to make each board.
  • i have already hacked mindwave using arduino.but it's dataset is not too usefull. or very few usefull parameters.

  • Well, they're only 1 channel. I wouldn't expect much.
  • but 8 channel openbci would help. that's why asked here if they could help!

I have no idea what the actual manufacturing costs are, but there are many costs besides parts costs.  Not to mention the literally thousands of hours that Joel and Conor have put into this over the past year.  My guess is that if you add all this up, the project is just covering costs.  No reason for anyone to "be ashamed".

  • I was talking about the situation, not the people. Of course there are developers that need to be paid, but the hardware is open source.

My comment was also a slight at getting things for free ;)
  • Though maybe a short form board if one is not interested in transmitting the data via Bluetooth, or not interested in logging the data to an SD card.

Myself - being interested in EMG and not EEG I would only be looking at returning a single number per channel depending on the flexure of the muscle.

Still - $500 is excellent value for the board.. Just have to start saving, selling the dog/wife/kids  etc  :)

Just put in my order for 8 Bit Board and Electrodes.

Just a little worried re the USPS as I am not sure if they have tracking etc. Being in Australia it's easier for things to get lost in transit.

@marcwolf, if you are only interested in EMG, there are many low cost solutions for you.
    sparkfun makes one

or you could simply buy some cheap op-amps and spin your own board...

That said, Thanks for your order and welcome to the OpenBCI Community!
