Feedback / observations on new Cyton user experience
I am so excited to get started but a few things have been a bit scary and I wanted to call them out as minor opportunities to clarify the documentation. Trust me, I understand how new dev experience is always changing a little as the product does. Since my eyes are fresh to this I figured I would share.
**Issue 1: **
In the box the cyton board ships with a card that says:
"DO NOT PRESS THE RST BUTTON.
It will brick the Cyton Board.
You will not be able to use the device after pressing RST."
When following the start up guide I see this advice telling people to use the RST button.
"Make sure to move the small switch on the right side of the board from "OFF" to "PC". As soon as you do, you should see a blue LED turn on. If you don't, press the reset (RST) button just to the left of the switch. If the LED still does not turn on, make sure you have full battery. If you're sure your batteries are fully charged, consult the hardware section of our Forum."
I did try searching the forums and found an older post referring to some advice against updating the firmware but not exactly something a match. For now I plan to avoid the RST button since that was warning was in the box.
Issue 2:
The USB charger PCB has a switch with "H" / "5" and "L" / "1". I could not find any documentation on this, so I left it as it was shipped from the factory on "L".
Looking forward to building some cool stuff!
Comments
I am guessing the L/H setting for the charger is just low or high current, I just didn't come across it in the docs yet (or maybe I didn't look in the right spot).
Hi Fostr,
The charger is the Adafruit MicroLipo. See page 11, and earlier pages describing the charge rate. Probably just leave at the factory setting of L (meaning 100 milliamp charging rate.)

Regarding the RST button, yes this is employed during the firmware update process. But the full firmware update process requires using BOTH the PROG and RST buttons together. So RST by itself just 'resets' the chipKIT microcontroller with no other actions.
