Stop data stream when no data received after 5 seconds

Is there a way to stop the pop up 'Stop data stream when no data received after 5 seconds'?
If I am using an SD card, is the data stream saved to the SD card also stopped?

    Sam, hi.

Why do you think that your Bluetooth stream is having trouble maintaining a steady stream? Is it possible that other wireless equipment in the same area is interfering with the radio channel? Have you tried changing the Cyton radio channel? Have you tried using a usb extension cable to get the dongle closer to the Cyton mainboard?

  • Hi William,
I am expecting my bluetooth stream to cut out as the user may be moving away from the dongle at times. Therefore, I am planning to also save the data to a micro-SD card on board the Cyton. I am wondering if there is a way to stop the 'Stop data stream when no data received after 5 seconds' popup that may appear when the user leaves the vicinity of the dongle?

    Sam,

If your dongle is on an extension cord, and say draped over a nearby elevated object, such as the top of your monitor -- it generally has better room coverage than if it is plugged into the side of a desktop or laptop computer. This is because the metallic casing of the computer, has adverse effects on the reception available to the RFduino radio on the dongle. Also some desks and tables can also have metallic surfaces that further block the reception.

With the dongle so positioned, you should easily be able reach throughout even large rooms.

As far as turning off the popup, I'll mention Richard @retiutut. I doubt this is settable, since this is a warning feature. But you could modify the source code and run a customized GUI. Richard will this stop his SDcard recording?

  • Hi William,
    Thanks for your advice.
I may just use an older GUI (v5.0.9) that does not have the pop-up feature.
Am I correct that saving to a micro-SD card mitigates any bluetooth issues? i.e. If I experience any bluetooth connection issues (from interference or moving way from the dongle), the complete data stream will still be saved to the micro-SD card?
    Thanks,
    Sam

I've looked into SD card recording quite a few times, and since its a minor feature of the board, there are rare requests to investigate and then even less resources to look at: firmware, BrainFlow, and the GUI. There are larger and easier issues to resolve before developing an "off-the-grid" mode for Cyton SD recording. In the immediate future, I would like to publish a script and/or build into the GUI a way to convert SD card files to readable CSV that can be played back in the GUI.
