OSC Networking Only Receiving Channel 4

Hello,
I'm a beginner and am excited to be using/learning OpenBCI's 'Low-cost Biosensing Starter Kit' which allows me to use 4 electrodes for an EEG headband. All is working well and I believe I'm getting good data from my electrodes within OpenBCI GUI.

As a starting point, I'm interested in using the EEG data as a basis for some kind of synthesizer within MaxMSP. I am able to transmit data via OSC through the networking widget, but I then run into a problem:

If I choose to send bandwidth data, which makes things easy for me, I'm only able to receive channel 4 and not the other 3. I've included a screen grab.

It's not all that clear how I would be able to transmit channels 1-3 as there's nowhere to set it. I've tried using the other streams in the networking widget and they all just transmit channel 4.

Thanks for your help.

Best,
Masood

Richard @retiutut is an expert on Max and is the GUI developer. He'll likely chime in.

    It actually comes through as 1 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. , next message 2 0. 0. 0. 0. 0., etc.

I'm thinking we should redo the OSC streaming to have sub-addresses: /openbci/ch1 or [userInput] /ch1/ .

  • Thanks to you both for responding so quickly.
@retiutut does that mean I am unpacking the OSC data incorrectly in Max? As far as I can tell, all I'm receiving is channel 4 and I'm unclear why. I never see anything but 4 for the channel when I unpack the OSC stream. Is there a way to parse the data in Max to see all 4 channels separately?

I'm working an an example for you. Just a moment...

Yes you are parsing the message correctly, just not accounting fully for messages coming in sequentially for each channel.

Here is a link to a google drive file. It's a simple max patch.

I just updated the link to make it a public file.

  • Wow. Thank you so so much. This is so helpful and teaches me so much. So grateful!
