Newbie here trying to get some direction and have some questions answered

First, I'll like to say hi to the community. I recently purchased the Cyton Bundle with 16 channels. I want to be able to record my brainwaves when I'm doing an activities and when I'm sleeping. So here are a few questions I have.

  • Should I have gone with the 8 Channel Cyton to allocate money to a device I can wear while recording in a sleep state? My credit card bills are prettying high right now.
  • Will I have an advantage having 16 channels reading as a newbie? What are the advantages for a DR.?
  • How long can the dupont wire length be before they degrade transmitting data? I would like the head gear to only have the sensors and be able to have the Cyton somewhere else for less interference. I'm hoping that adding 10 feet to each end point will not degrade the reading.
  • Can the Cyton log without the OpenBCI GUI? If I were to ride a bike or go for a jog , I do not want to have to carry around a computer. And are there best practice setting for this type of activity? I have read some people posting that there data gets corrupt or set to a frequency.
  • What are the best practice setting for logging when:
  • Logging brain activity when using brain challenging games.
  • Just meditating.
  • Does the Cyton have an option to turn off BLE?
  • Does the Cyton have pin outs to create a serial cable to computer for OpenBCI interface.

    As you add length to electrode cables, more motion artifact is created on the channels. Such motion happens with head movement, body movement, etc. Additionally long electrode cables that are parallel, will sometimes induce cross channel coupling of noise.

    Not clear your comment "have the Cyton somewhere else for less interference" the inverse is actually the case. A compromise might be to clip the Cyton to your shirt chest front, which would allow shorter cables. But the Cyton positioning directly on the headset is optimal; no cable motion.

    No.

    There is an SDcard recording capability. But you would find that jogging or biking just induces too much motion artifact. EEG is best recording when relatively little body motion is happening.

    I was thinking of running a longer wire and keep it closer to my computer.

    So this holds true for all EEG reading equipment or is this specifically for the Mark IV? I am having issues printing the Mark IV and spoke with Sam on options should I not be able to print one.

    Also, would it be better for me to just use the 8 channel as a newbie?

    All EEG equipment works best with minimal body / head motion. You mentioned sleep monitoring in your first post. Ultracortex would create too much noise and artifact with your head rolling around on the pillow. There are numerous other threads on PSG, using cup electrodes and various elastic bands.
