Unable to start session

edited April 2020 in Cyton

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to connect to a setup of Cyton+Daisy boards and WiFi shield. I haven't been able to do so with either the Bluetooth-Dongle, WiFi-Direct or WiFi-Station. With the Bluetooth dongle, I managed to connect once or twice, but since then 30 to 40 attempts failed and I can't tell what I did differently then. With WiFi-Direct, I managed to start a session once, but didn't receive any data and since then, I couldn't connect again.

I don't know where to start troubleshooting. Maybe you could point me in the right direction.
I'm using the GUI v2.4.0.
The firmware for the WiFi shield is v2.0.5.
I'm not entirely sure about the firmware version of the Cyton board, but I think it is 3.X.

Below you can find the log for an attempt to connect over Bluetooth (if it helps, I can also post my attempts to connect via WiFi):
In most (or at least some) cases, I can pair the dongle and the Cyton board, when I click on AUTOSCAN. But then, there is always an init timeout.

Sometimes using Autoscan causes the Dongle to be busy.

    Radios_Config: set_ovr_channel
Radios_Config: Success: Host override - Channel number: 16
    Radios_Config: system_status
    Radios_Config: Success: System is Up
    Radios_Config: Success: System is Up
[SUCCESS]: Successfully connected to Cyton using COM3

The above messages are a good sign!

Restart the GUI and try to connection using Cyton+Dongle, now that they are on the same channel. Please post the Console Log, and don't press Autoscan again.

    Hope this helps,

  • Hello @retiutut,
thank you so much for replying to my post! :)
I started the GUI and tried to connect via the dongle without pressing Autoscan.
This is the log I get:

I know you've already done the following, but please try again exactly as outlined below:

Steps to hopefully align Cyton + Dongle and see live data:

    • Run Standalone GUI 4.2.0
    • Click Cyton > Serial (from Dongle) > Select Serial/Com Port > Autoscan
    • If no success message appears, click Autoscan one more time. Do not click the Autoscan button more than twice!
    • Autoscan should get a success message on the 1st or 2nd try
    • Click "Start Session” button
    • “Start Data Stream”
    • Take a Screenshot of the GUI while data is streaming
    • “Stop Data Stream"
    • Click the Console Log button in the top right of the GUI, and share here.

This process helps identify hardware issues.

  • I'll have to retry a few times to see, if my success is reliable, but on my second attempt following your instructions, I managed to start a session. I'll let you know if I can reproduce this result because I honestly think that these steps are exactly what I did before.
In any case, thanks a million for your help!

Just do the steps once, exactly as outlined. This is tried and true, and used in support tickets. The fact that Autoscan has worked at least once is a good sign.

  • It did work again today. Not every time I try, but about every second attempt and that is good enough for me :)
    Thank you

@lkpsych Can I please see the Console log?

Once you are able to connect, there is no reason to press "Autoscan" ever again.

Glad to hear you are able to connect! I think this rules out hardware issues, but I would still like to see the Console log to see how the Cyton is behaving.
