Bad Channel #4

edited January 2015 in Cyton
After following the tutorial I could not get ECG waveforms reliably on input 4.  Occasionally I would see a very noisy signal then it would switch to just random noise.  After a few hours of pulling my hair and reading the manual I decided to switch to another input port, 5, and it worked fine.  In fact they all seem to work except for 4.  Apparently input port 4 doesn't work.  Toggling settings in the GUI and power on off does not seem to solve the issue.

Any suggestions on what do to?

John, just to confirm. You have tried different electrodes on this channel 4, to eliminate that possibility of a bad connector or connection. And I assume you are using all the pins closest to the OpenBCI PC board surface: SRB2, IN4N, and BIAS. Mention where you connected these three electrodes on your body.

If this is true, then it looks likely that you might have a bad board. I'm sure you could get a priority replacement by emailing [email protected] .  Mention all the tests you've performed.

  • Hi jhalsema,

Any luck getting your channel 4 working? There's a chance it's a hardware issue.

    Conor, hi.

I did send a PM to John and got this reply from him last week:

Sorry I've been so late in responding, some health issues kept me away for a few days.  I verified the channel is bad, it appears the amplifier for that channel is erratic, but it fails every time I use it.  All the others seem to work well although there is a lot of 60hz in them, perhaps that is to be expected with the unshielded cables and I can probably build a better digital filter for that.  I'll look into how to get the replacement.  Thanks for your help.
  • How do I look into getting a replacement board or repair for the bad channel?

John, Did you try emailing [email protected] ? Conor I think also will get notifications on posts on this thread. It might make sense to chat on the phone with Conor or Joel there to confirm your test setup. And then arrange how to mail back the board.

  • William, I did email [email protected], but haven't heard back.  I'm out of the country until next Monday.

  • I received and tested the new board.  Works GREAT!  I have the old one ready to send back, but can't find the directions for return.

    Sent you an email, John.

When we get the board, I will post results of diagnostic and repair here.
