Cyton dongle not connecting to mainboard [resolved] with AUTOSCAN

I have a Cyton dongle and board from the DIY Neurotechnologists kit, purchased in October 2019.
In the past couple days I've been unable to connect the Cyton dongle to the board. I've had one successful connection and stream using the Python library. Otherwise, when I try to connect using the OpenBCI GUI and Python library the lights will blink twice, and then nothing happens. I've tried new batteries, disconnecting and reinserting the dongle, and turning the Cyton board off and on.
I think something may have failed in the dongle or board, since a couple weeks ago I noticed that occasionally the dongle and board would not connect. Now, that occasional occurrence has become constant inability to connect.
I've seen some other threads that recommend reflashing the dongle, which I will try.
Alternatively, if I bought the WiFi shield, will I have a much more reliable connection?

Try AUTOSCAN feature in the GUI Console under Serial Connect -> Manual. This aligns the channel setting on the Dongle and Cyton.
