DIY board, daisy data stream with USB to serial converter [resolved]
Hello,
I've connected the Cyton+Daisy to the computer terminal via a FTDI usb to serial converter(with serial port utility software).
I sent the commands "? b s" manually and I got the following results.
My question is given that eight daisy channels have been identified why not Daisy board data in the log data and there are only 8 main board channels(there are only 31 bytes of channels 1~8 and accelerometer)?
Thanks for your helps.

Andree, hi. You mention: "I've connected the Cyton+Daisy to the computer terminal via a FTDI usb to serial converter(with serial port utility software)."
Can you clarify, are you using the Cyton dongle, which includes an FTDI usb serial converter?
Regards, WIlliam
What do you mean by "computer terminal"? Are you referring to a laptop?
Hi WIlliam,
Thanks for your fast reply. I made the cyton+Daisy boards without the Bluetooth module. I was able to connect the board to the
OpenBCI GUI 4.1.7 software via the WiFi module(ESP8266) and displaying 16-channel data plot. I need to
transfer stream data to the laptop without OpenBCI GUI. So, based on the schematic of cyton, I made a wired
connection between PIC32 pins(RXD[D6] , TXD[D14]) and "FTDI Friend" module to send control commands(?,b,s, ...) and receive stream data. But I see 8-channel data. How do I add 8-daisy channels to the data stream?
Best regards,
Andree
The RFduino's (dongle = 'host', and mainboard = 'device') are NOT just passive data stream channels. They actually implement a subset of the SDK functions (for radio channel selection, autoscan, etc.), and insert bytes into the stream as well.
Have you looked over some of the other threads in the Build-It-Yourself category? I moved your thread this same area.

I have no problem programming.
My problem is getting 8-channels instead of 16-channels. When I send Command "b" for a cyton+daisy, this is the format of the received data:

According to "SDK section" and "Data format" description
This is just 8-channel "device" data. Why 8-channels of "Daisy" data does not exist?
I was able to connect the board to the OpenBCI GUI 4.1.7 software via the WiFi module(ESP8266) and displaying 16-channel data plot. Do you have a sample of 16-channel raw stream?
You can Private Message others in the thread I mentioned, who succeeded in a Build-It-Yourself, without using the RFduino. Click on their name, then use the Message button.

One of your previous posts said you were using Wifi and the GUI to stream the data, not serial port. Yet the output above looks like it is from the serial port?
In serial port mode with Daisy, Cyton STILL only outputs 8 channel packets, but alternates. This could be what you are seeing.
https://docs.openbci.com/docs/02Cyton/CytonDataFormat#16-channel-data-with-daisy-mdule
If you intend to Wifi, you CAN get the data in raw 16 channel mode. According to this page, the packets are still sent in 33 byte format. Which likely means they alternate packets, as described above. But WITHOUT the averaging mentioned on the link above. If you output via serial port, you WILL get the 125 Hz sample rate with averaging scheme.
