Hello,

Do I simply make sure that after applying the notch filter there is no peak around 50hz and then measure the remaining amplitude?

If you are only interested in 40 Hz gamma, the notch at 50 Hz may not be interfering. You could also experiment with the notch either on or off, and say a bandpass filter from 35 to 45 Hz. Gamma is not just at 40, but a wider range.

Generally gamma amplitude at the scalp is severely attenuated by bone and skin. You're lucky to see a few microvolts. Also be aware that muscles below the scalp (EMG), can mimic gamma.
