how to read EEG with cap when user is laying down?

Hello,

how to read EEG with cap when user is laying down on the back? Are there any special beds or pillows for this?

In my current setting I only use PZ, CZ, FZ and AFZ and the cables from the cap our coming out around the neck. PZ is not pressed by the pillow I use, but a few minutes in the 40 min session noise starts to creep in around 50hz.

Any suggestions?

Thanks! k

  • A roll shaped pillow that pads the neck while raising the head slightly above the mattress can help if the problem is electrodes or wires getting caught between head and bedding.

    many thanks Bill.

When using electrodes with saline water, is it possible that laying down instead of sitting makes impedance worse faster while measuring. I started with <5kOhm and ended up with >100kOhm after 40 minutes. Maybe I just have to make the cap tighter, not sure yet, I'll try a few more times.

  • When sitting, gravity aids with electrodes staying down. When lying down, sometimes gravity works against adhesion.

Yes, I am glad I don't need to measure downward facing dogs :) I guess making the electrodes and the head/hair as wet as possible is one good idea.

Can salty water evaporate fast in room temperature?

Kris, you could have the subject using your saline cap, put over top of it a vinyl "shower cap". This might slow down evaporation.

But it sounds like to me you just need tighter seating of the cap on the head for prone position.

Thanks William, I will experiment. The S3 arrived, I should try it soon, maybe it is tighter than the S1.
