Cyton Dongle - not working (blue light not working)

Hello,

I have been trying to connect the cyton dongle, but the my computer is not even recognizing the device. Also there is no blue light glowing. I have checked with drivers and reinstalled them, still no response.

Please guide me how to make it work.

    When was the last time the dongle worked and what was the last thing you were doing with it?

    This is the first time when I am using the device. Nothing else has been done.

    Dharmesh, hi.

    Have you tried plugging the dongle into another computer? It's possible there could be something odd about your usb on the current machine. You should see the dongle appear as a serial port (COM or /dev) when inserted. Then disappear when removed. What make / model is your computer and OS / version.

    Yes, I have tried plugging it in couple of computers. I have tried on Windows 7 , Windows 10 and Ubuntu. I am using Dell optiplex 7060.

    Does the COM port (in Device Manager) show up when you plug it in, and disappear when unplug?

    If so, then the FTDI chip on the dongle is working. It's possible the flash memory has glitched. You could reload using instructions here:


    However, if you just purchased this Cyton, I suggest emailing contact at openbci.com, and ask how you should proceed. They may mail you out a new dongle.

    Nothing is getting reflected in the device manager.

    As I mentioned, just email to contact at openbci.com. If no COM ports are showing, when trying on multiple computers, it means that your dongle is dead, and cannot even be re-flashed. Sorry for this occurrence.

    In case if the dongle is not at all working, but the Cyton board is functioning. How do we check that? Can we use the SD card to record the signal without depending upon the dongle? Or is there any other communication way?

    You need a working dongle to do anything with the board. Have you emailed contact at openbci.com, as I suggested. They should be able to replace your dongle, since this was a new purchase.

    You did not answer my question about the COM port showing up in the device manager when the dongle is plugged in. But since you tried on multiple computers, and the Device Manager showed no COM port on any of them -- that means the dongle is dead.

    If you happened to have another Cyton with dongle, you could test your new Cyton with the other dongle. But to do this, you need to align the radio channels on dongle and Cyton. This is described in the Cyton tutorial.
