Has anyone had any success pairing the Muse Headband with Brainbay? Or.
Is their any word if the brainbay developers intend to include the Muse
as an option?

    Res, hi.

One of the complications with Muse, is that they have a couple versions of the headband, and also multiple SDKs. Only some of which give access to the raw data BrainBay needs. It appears they are moving to some kind of business model where users wanting raw data access must pay for a license or renewed subscription cost. I believe Emotiv also has this approach.

One of the great things about OpenBCI is that all these protocols and info are open source.

My suggestion is to post on the BrainBay issues page,

My guess is that because of the multiple combinations of hardware versions and SDK versions, this would be difficult.

    Regards,

    William

My reading of the current Muse website, is that they've dropped support for the SDK. Now they offer Muse Direct, a subscription model for raw EEG access. But only for iOS devices, no laptop / desktop access. And nothing for Android either. Seems odd.

Here's another possibility. Chris (author of BrainBay), is considering adding LSL support to BrainBay. Once complete it will be able to read LSL streams. Not sure the timeframe, this is a fairly significant code addition, so might be months off.

You could then use this package to output an LSL stream to be consumed by BrainBay.

This of course is dependent on your using the Muse V1, from 2016, which they are still selling. Muse V2 has no open interface code, only the Muse Direct.

OK, good news, earlier this year they added support for Muse 2. So both V1 and V2 appears to be supported.
  • Wow! I should update! Why didn’t I think of this!! Lol

I just created the issue myself for Chris to comment on,

  • I should point out. I'm no coder and have no knowledge of Python...I'm afraid, if i don't have the ability to select the muse headband as a source from the dropdown menu, i'm lost.

Also consider (until BrainBay can consume LSL), that many other DSP / BCI apps can consume LSL streams, such as OpenViBE, etc.

The instructions on installation and use of Muse LSL are pretty thorough. Requiring no programming knowledge in Python. Also checkout the OpenViBE tutorials.
  • thanks! Will do. I appreciate your help!
