DB25 on cap to touchproof connector conversion

hey !
we are interested to work on BCI for gaming applications.
we wanted to buy the CYTON board and also the BIO-CAP (https://www.biopac.com/product/eeg-caps-for-cap100c/)
the bio-cap terminates in a DB25 connector and we need to buy a DB25 to DIN pin convertor .

But how do we interface the DIN connectors pins to the CYTON board .?
is there any link where we could check up how setup the cyton board with the caps ?

Also apart from the Cyton board is an arduino board required for interfacing ?

    Sush, hi.

That "Biopac" cap is just a plain Electro-cap. You can get somewhat better pricing directly from them.

Convert is shown at the top,

Then use the adapter shown here,

Just choose which 8 Cyton channels you want to associate with which of the 19 cap wires (10-20 positions). Electro-cap also has videos on injecting the gel, applying the cap, etc. No other interface boards needed.

  • Thank you so much!
Could u suggest any other head-caps with holes based on 10-20 system that come without electrodes that we could use with the gold electrodes and the cyton board .?

The gold cup electrodes are designed to be used with Ten20 paste (usually). Jeremy Frey @jfrey designed a 3D printed electrode holder that fits in the g.tec g.GAMMAcap, and conductive gel is injected. The 3D file on his Github is linked on this page,

There are many other posts which describe various cap systems in the Headware category, look around.

  • thank you!
What format is the data received in ?

  • HI
i am also interested to work on BCI gaming applications.
I wanted to know if  http://electro-cap.com/index.cfm/supplies/ (the converter) connects to the touch proof electrodes directly
or is any amplifier required apart from the CYTON BOARD .

    @swati, hi.

The connections are just as they appear in the photos: the converter changes DB25 into touchproof, and the OpenBCI touchproof adapter converts touchproof to female header pin connectors that plug directly into the mainboard.

@SUSH123, the data is just in normal Cyton format, described on the docs pages,

  • Hi ,
i had a few more question.
Will the cyton board and gold cup electrode be enough to acquire the EEG signals without any cap /convertor?
and will we have to purchase any other software like OpenBCI ? can we use Matlab and openVibe to acquire and work with the signal ?

do we receive the signals in .csv format ?
  • wjcroftwjcroft Mount Shasta, CA
Sushi, hi. Yes the Cyton plus the OpenBCI gold cup electrodes work fine together. You do need to use Ten20 paste in that configuration. In many of the EEG cap situations, injectable conductive gel is used instead of paste.

The OpenBCI comes with a GUI that can record to csv format as well as other formats. Yes Matlab and OpenViBE are supported.

  • Thank you !
We are interested to work on it .
Could we know how long it would take for the board to be shipped to India ?

    Wjcroft hi,
One question, i was trying to use an electro-cap with an 8-bit Cyton board, the cap terminates in the DB25 connector and i was wondering if its necessary to use the DB25 to touchproof converter and then the touchproof to female header converter in order to get a proper signal. I was trying to directly connect female headers to the DB25 pins i needed, however in the openbci software all the channels/signals where railed. Thank you very much!

    Pablo, hi.

You need to use the Electro-cap DB-25 to touchproof converter. And then the OpenBCI touchproof to female header connectors. That will plug onto the Cyton board.

Female-Female header jumpers will not have the right pin mating dimensions to establish a direct link from DB-25 male to Cyton male. And besides that kind of connection would be very prone to noise and disconnection.

Yeah thats what i thought :( but thank you very much! I really appreciate your help!
