OpenBCI GUI freezes in Mac + Ganglion

edited April 2018 in OpenBCI_GUI
Hello,

I am trying to connect my Ganglion board to OpenBCI GUI through BLE. The software detects the device but when I click on "START SYSTEM" it freezes completely. When I click on start, the flickering blue light in the board becomes steady, so it looks like it is connecting, but then the software does not switch to the other menu, it stays frozen in the System Control Panel.  I have tried that with two MacBook Pro (2015 and 2017) both running High Sierra and both freeze. Any solution to that?

Thanks.

  • Hi there,

    i am experiencing the same issue, with the app (OSX 10.13.4 , MBP late14). with the processing solution it even does not show devices. any idea/hint/similar experiences? with the same openbci hardware and macbook it worked with yosemite OSX.

    thanks!
  • i had the exact same issue (v3.3.1 app froze when clicking 'START SYSTEM').  the fix is simple: just move the app somewhere out of the application.macosx folder (!) that you get when you download and unzip application.macosx.zip.  creating a new folder or move the app to the desktop is enough to make the freeze issue go away.

    the documentation (http://docs.openbci.com/OpenBCI Software/01-OpenBCI_GUI) does say "Drag and drop the OpenBCI_GUI application to you Applications folder" but as happens i ignored that.  it must be some kind of file permission issue.

    i'm on macos 10.12.6, mid2015 macbook pro, cyton board with latest firmware.

    I have followed the above mentioned steps and installed the FDTIUSBserial Driver but sill found the GUI freezing issue (Grey screen). I am in macOS High Sierra 10.13.6. Please help me.

    @mahbub01, hi.

    You mention, "and installed the FDTI USB serial Driver". Your OpenBCI is Ganglion correct? You should not need any dongle on a Mac (usually), unless your Mac is older and lacks the proper native Bluetooth hardware. In that case a BLED112 dongle is recommended.
