OpenBCI_Python Ganglion support for Windows (bluepy)

Hi All,

Before I start on the journey, just wondering if anyone else has created a version of OpenBCI_Python for the Ganglion that runs on Windows. The bluetooth library, bluepy, seems to be only supported under linux.

I was thinking of investigating using pygatt or pybluez as an alternative. Maybe I'll get lucky and find that someone has ported bluepy to windows!

My final goal is to stream over LSL to software such as OpenVibe and Matlab (I have been successful with the Cyton and I've been using LSL with other EEG hardware for many years). Other options such as the OpenBCI_GUI (freezes when streaming to LSL) and the OpenBCI_LSL (no Ganglion support as far as I can tell) might be options, but both have issues as well.

Trent, hi.

The GUI will output LSL for Ganglion reliably, IF you run the GUI from Processing; not the standalone. The freeze is some type of code signing issue regarding the OpenBCI Hub.

Also suggest you use the BLED112 dongle. If you eventually develop Ganglion Windows support for OpenBCI_Python, again use the BLED112, it has superior buffering and works on all versions of Windows, even Windows 7.

Thanks for the speedy reply.

BLED112 check, I was working through getting processing working (but had issues downloading?!)

I tried for a whole 30mins with Bluetooth, Python, Windows and figured too hard and moved onto using Processing

Long story, short. It worked!

Followed the instruction on the OpenBCI website...and it worked!

If I ever get around to working through a bluetooth/win10 solution I'll be sure to come back. Seems that the Hub does most of the board/bluetooth hard work so something that works with the hub directly for LSL would be good.

Oh and BTW, thanks for the Google link...I was wondering what this Google thing was all about

Should be possible to open a Ganglion connection with the API and receive samples from your Python or other language directly. Then feed LSL through it's Python API. For that matter, modifying OpenBCI_Python to interface with the Hub sounds easier than going through the BLED112 Python libraries.

The downside is that the Hub is fairly hefty codewise. But if you already have it installed, no big deal.
