Which OSX and FTDI version is best to use with the standalone OpenBCI_GUI?

Hello Forum,

I am about to install a fresh OS X for work with the 8 channel Cyton (bluetoothe and wifi). Can you help with the following questions please?

1) Which OSX is best when working mainly with the standalone app (OpenBCI_GUI)? At the moment I have El Capitan and Sierra on the computer.

2) If I only use the standalone app (OpenBCU_GUI), I don't need Processing and the OpenBCI Electron HUB installed, correct?

3) Is it still best to have the 2.2.18 FTDI drivers or is it better to upgrade to 2.4.2?

On Sierra I did not install any FTDI drivers and everything was still streaming fast - does this mean that some OS doesn't need FTDI drivers with the OpenBCI dongle?

Many thanks!
k

If I don't have choppy data, is it still a good idea to follow the instructions in the 'Fixing FTDI InBufferSize for OS X' tutorial?

I read forum discussions in connection to this fix and as they seem to be all from 2014/15 maybe with the new FTDI driver 2.4.2 this fix is not relevant anymore? Does anyone have some thought/experience on this?

    Thanks! k
