mixing electrodes
in Electrodes
Hi everyone,
I’m using the Ultracortex with a Cyton 8-channel board and planning to upgrade to 16 channels. I currently use 8 dry electrodes and want to add gold cup electrodes for better signal quality ,or stress detection.
so I’d like advice on:
Best skin locations for gold electrodes (frontal/parietal)
Whether I can place them around the eyes ? and is it good idea mixing dry and gold electrodes?

I think the conclusion is that silver chloride electrodes are compatible with other types as long as the Ag-AgCl coatings are good. Note that under the chloride layer is a silver layer, thus a worn dry electrode would combine the electro potential of silver with gold, which is not recommended. But the 'dry' electrodes generally have no significant saline 'sweat' under them so you don't have a 'real' electrolyte involved (like paste or gel).
The Ultracortex locations can reach the same frontal / parietal / etc 10-20 map sites as can gold cups. Generally sites around the eyes are mainly used for EOG artifact detection / cancelation.
