Is it possible to power Cyton+Daisy by USB ?
Hello,
My team is working on a BCI project and we've been planning to use a « Cyton+Daisy Biosensing Board 16-channel » for some time now. To be accurate, we're using a ALL-IN-ONE EEG ELECTRODE CAP STARTER KIT.
We just started coding with Brainflow, so we leave the headset turned on to test our code. However, we realised that the headset drains the batteries quite fast. We emptied 4 that we left in the headset over night (we think it was turned off, but anyway, now we're just taking the batteries out when we're done). We emptied the next 4 batteries in around 10 hours.
So we checked on the board and it's written 3V to 12V, but no other indication. As far as I'm aware, most phone chargers deliver somewhere around 5V. So we were wondering :
Would it possible to power the Cyton board with a simple phone charger and adapter (or anything else that doesn't use batteries really) ?

Hi Tristan,
NO, it is not recommended, because the 5V DC power from many wall chargers has variable amounts of power supply noise riding alongside the 5V. This can contaminate the EEG which is microvolt sensitive.
Take a look at the LiPo batteries and chargers at Adafruit. The current consumption of the boards is actually quite low.
