Best Equipment for a Newbie: DL / ERP

Hey Guys!
I am a Deep Learning Engineer, who wants to start to use his knowledge to apply it to neuro scientific problems. I have started learning a lot about the Theory behind EEGs and cell assembly functionig, but now I want to get my "hands dirty" with some real life experience with EEGs.
Since I am completely new to EEG kits, I wondered if you could give me a tip what exactly I need to start doing some signal processings on my own brain - e.g. which kind of kit would fit me best, I thought about buying an OpenBCI Cyton, but I wondered what you would recommend, are 8-channels enough, or will I need 16 channels? Keeping in mind that the ultimate goal is to go over to ERP EEG, or would 16 not be enough for that?

    Deniz, hi.

    Here is a link with an example of an cVEP application running with Ganglion. It is using a form of Visual Evoked Potentials, that is "code based". As opposed to VEPs like SSVEP Steady State VEP.

    As far as number of channels recommended for P300, look over some of these links. You should be fine with 8 or less.

    Thanks so much for the answer! The cVEP example is highly impressive!
    So, as far as I understood, I could buy a Ganglion 4 channel, try my first EEGs, and afterwards use it for ERP EEGs?
    Since I have a 3d printer, I would also like to buy the "print-it-yourself" Ultracortex "Mark IV", since I think that also works with the Ganglion, right? Does the headset come with electrodes, or do I need to buy them extra?

    Print-it-yourself includes the electrodes / holders. Yes the Ultracortex works with any OpenBCI board. Note that dry electrodes give somewhat less microvolts output than 'wet' (paste or gel) connections. Check your ERP papers to see what they recommend. Four channels should be enough, if that correlates with what you find in the links above. For other electrodes (such as cup, used with paste), see the Shop pages.

    one last thing: I've read that there might be problems with receiving goods in Europe. What exactly happens if I buy OpenBCI products and they get captured at the customs? Will I have some sort of support from your side?
