Starting this thread after my initial experiences working with the Processing sketch. Idea here is to capture recommendations for the improvement of the software interface, particularly the GUI and anything that makes it more user friendly. I hesitate to use the buzzwords "usability" and "intuitive" because they mean different things to different people, but I think we can approach some common sense enhancements and agree on them.
It's probably a good idea to note a few things so one can understand my approach. I am not a programmer per se... I am a heavy software user in several genres (mostly music and healthcare). I am the typical advanced user who can ALWAYS break things. I figure that is a skill, not a detriment. I am a newbie to OpenBCI and neurosciences, but have been interested in this field since a young age and would like to bring my other experience to the table to move this project forward.
So these recommendations come from the user perspective, with perhaps no understanding about what it might take to pull them off. But they are all meant in the spirit of making something easier, more fun and enjoyable for someone to use so that they can get past the roadblocks and move on to using the technology in wonderful ways.
Just to start:
#1 - Mouse roll-overs within various parts of the app to provide feedback to the user (labels, etc). Explain everything on the screen, Perhaps make this configurable to turn off for experts.
#2 - Built-in tutorial for first time use, with clear explanations. Recommended software config for first connection.
#3 - More clarity on the start/stop data stream button - found the current implementation very confusing.
