Cannot connect Cyton board

HI there,

I'm trying to connect my Cyton board, but keep getting 'Failure: System Down' error. I used to be able to connect through the same USB port, but fairly intermittently, but it would work eventually, but now I've probably tried a few dozen times, and get the same error every time.

Note that the batteries are brand new, I use the same machine as i did when the connection was successful, USB port is the same. I'm using a Macbook Pro MacOS 10.13 (High Sierra)

Also when i turn the board switch to PC, the blue light lights up, but doesn't blink, as described in the manual. I'm not entirely sure if it blinked when the connection was successful.

Has anyone dealt with the same issue? Any ideas / suggestions will be highly appreciated!
