OpenBCI GUI won't launch (WIndows 10, 64-Bit)

The GUI suddenly stopped starting.
No problem will occur when I try to record brain waves via another program (eg. "Brainbay").

GUI version

OpenBCI_GUI_v_3_2_0            (OpenBCIHub_v_1_3_9)
OpenBCI_GUI_v_3_3_1_beta1 (OpenBCIHub_v_1_4_2)
OpenBCI_GUI_v_3_3_2            (OpenBCIHub_v_1_4_4)
OpenBCI_GUI_v_3_4_0_beta0 (OpenBCIHub_v_1_4_5)

I attempted to start up using the above GUI version, but All programs will not start.
Sometimes the program will start after about 10 minutes have elapsed. The probability is about one tenth.

All OpenBCIHub will start without problems.

I used the above GUIs without problems until one week ago. Are there any solution?

    Otemo, hi.

Is is possible that a Windows 10 automatic update, has broken the GUI? This is not uncommon, that some apps have problems after a forced update.

"Windows 10 version 1809: Act fast to delay this big upgrade"

Can you check your Windows control panels to see when the last update came in, and what number / version it was? It might be possible that you can back out of a bad update, not sure.

    Consider opening an issue here,

But describe the issue in the subject line with more detail: what exact version of WIndows 10 are you running, etc.

    Regards,

    William

  • Hi William,

    Thank you for your advice!
I have checked the information of my OS.

    edition: Windows 10 Pro
    number/version: 1803
    install data: 5/25/2018
    os build: 17134.228

Is it possibility that my anti-virus software blocks the GUI startup?
Of course, I am trying to launch that software as an administrator.

    Best regards,
    Otemo

    Otemo, hi.

It could be your anti-virus, those auto-update more often than Microsoft Windows updates. What else changed in the last week? Can you try on another laptop?

I suggest logging your issue, that way AJ @pushtheworld might have a suggestion.

    Regards,

    William

Also, try launching the GUI from Processing, rather than the pre-built exe.

  • Hi, Willian.

Thank you for the quick response!
I am going to try all the methods that you suggested.

I will also report the results to you.

  • Hi There,

I have found one of the causes of this problem.

My antivirus software seems to interrupt the GUI's startup. After uninstalling the antivirus software, the GUI ran without any problem.

I have gotten the information that this antivirus software was automaticaly upgarede on last Friday in preparation for updating Windows 10 version 1809. This Anti-Will software is a very famous software in Japan, but it is not used anywhere in the world, so this problem could be a regionally one.

Here is my antivirus software information

    King regards,
    Otemo

Otemo, that is great news. I assume you could just use Microsoft's own anti virus, if you wanted something free and relatively good quality.

I'd also suggest blocking 1809, until a month or so down the road when all the kinks are worked out.

  • Hi William,

I appreciate your always prompt advice and support !
I will postpone the 1809 upgrade according to your suggesiton.
