No. When the usb dongle is plugged into a usb host port (either on a laptop or a mobile with a OTG cable), the dongle appears to the OS as a "usb serial port".

So, if I use an OTG cable, do I connect the tablet to the dongle via OTG and then establish a Bluetooth connection?

Have you considered using an OTG cable with the dongle on your tablet? Check with Andrey on the Brainflow Slack, I think there was some investigation with using that route.

iPhone and iOS are much more restricted than Android. You could ask on the Slack about it. Not sure if iOS supports OTG cables.

    1. I prefer to use smartphone to get streamed data from openBCI board. So I connect Android OTG cable to Android phone and then connect Cyton dongle to Android OTG cable. In this way, data will be str

I merged your new thread into this existing Cyton thread on the same subject. Cyton use requires using an Android OTG cable and the Cyton dongle. See above comments. RFduino dongle / mainboard radio p

Karl Semich (Github: xloem) has mentioned on a recent Brainflow Slack thread, that he has the Cyton dongle talking to Brainflow using an OTG cable. It's working for him. A pull request has been submit

There are some old threads, regarding connecting Cyton via a usb cable, using an FTDI usb serial breakout, tacked onto the Cyton mainboard. But this is really NOT the way to go, provided the OTG adapt

If you are just using any other normal Linux with usb ports, the dongle plugs in directly. No OTG adaptor needed. The OpenBCI GUI should run fine with any Linux.

The recommended way to connect to a usb port on a mobile device, is to use what is called an "OTG adaptor". This turns the usb port into a "host port", which can accept the dongle.

I do believe, if you're are interested mainly in Cyton, that both the Wifi connection, and an Android OTG serial port connection would be possible. But I understand that the wifi may be easiest for yo

Please investigate the Ganglion route. But Cyton would work using the OTG. The Cyton serial protocol is also available with Brainflow.

My suggestion is that you obtain a cable for your Android device. An Android device such as a tablet will have a larger battery. This cable is called an "OTG cable", which stands for On The
