OpenBCI and Pupil Labs Announce Launch of  Untethered, All-in-One Brain, Body, and Eye Tracking Headset

Today, OpenBCI and Pupil Labs unveiled the result of a months-long collaboration: the first untethered, all-in-one brain, body, and eye tracking headset. By combining OpenBCI’s state-of-the-art Galea biosensing platform with Pupil Labs’ compact, modular Neon eye-tracking system, the companies have created a powerful new tool for real-time analysis of the human mind and body. Galea + Neon opens new frontiers in understanding human cognition, emotion, learning, and behavior.

Originally launched to simplify multimodal data collection in VR and XR environments, Galea now gains the ability to capture that same rich variety of data in real-world contexts. With Pupil Labs Neon’s high-performance, mobile eye tracking, researchers retain full gaze monitoring capability outside of VR. Removing the VR headset lenses transforms Galea from an XR-integrated system into a fully self-contained mobile lab, allowing users to switch in seconds between VR, XR, 2D screen-based, and controlled real-world experiments without changing equipment.

Pairing Galea’s multimodal biosensing with Pupil Lab’s eye tracking ensures every signal—EEG, EOG, EMG, EDA, PPG, and eye tracking—is perfectly aligned and available in real time. This integration streamlines setup, eliminates the complexity of syncing multiple systems, and enables researchers to capture lab-grade measurements across modalities with minimal preparation time.

Gaze Tracking powered by Pupil Lab’s NeonNet

“Researchers have always been forced to piece together separate tools for brain, body, and eye tracking with each tool having its own setup, synchronization, and data access challenges,” said Conor Russomanno, CEO and founder of OpenBCI. “With Galea and Neon, you can now capture a comprehensive multi-modal dataset in a single session, from a single platform, with confidence that every signal is perfectly aligned.”

“The integration of Neon with Galea creates a powerful hardware platform for human behavior research,” said Moritz Kassner, CEO and co-founder of Pupil Labs. “OpenBCIs modular setup empowers researchers to seamlessly transition between immersive and real-world environments using the same equipment and synchronised data streams, significantly lowering the technical barrier.”

Key benefits of the combined platform include:

  • All-in-One Sensing – Brain, body, and eye tracking in one standalone, wearable device.
  • Go Anywhere – Fully untethered for total freedom in real-world environments. Capture lab-grade data during natural movement and interaction.
  • Perfectly Synced – All signals are aligned and the raw data is made available in real-time for easy analysis.
  • Fast Setup – Galea can be set up in minutes. Spend more time collecting data, and less time calibrating and setting up.
  • Switch in Seconds – Quickly move between VR, XR, 2D screen, and real-world experiments.

These aren’t rendered images of what’s to come, Galea + Neon is here, shipping now, and ready to transform how we study and understand the human mind and body. Inquire today at galea.co.

I work with a Non Profit called Vets to Drones. I have been a part of the Open BCI Community for years and I believe that this is a tool that can 100% be used to help our Veterans.

Our organization is made up of not only hundreds of Veterans, I have several who has been in charge of Clinical Research in the VA system. I would like to have one of these headsets available to experiment with for the 2026 year.

Use Cases:
Tracking a Veterans Emotions
Determining a Veterans Level of anxiety to Visual Stimuli
Assisting a veteran who is experiencing addiction
Assisting a Veteran in understanding Various triggers assiciated with their behavior based upon brain wave assessment. and there is so much more.

Please have someone get in touch with me. I am cerrtain that I have colleagues who have run VA Research Programs and who could assist in setting up and condusting these experiements. I would welcom tthat opportunity to collaborate with someone in setting up experiments help veterans everrywhere. Please Advise.
