Wifi shield claims that no board is connected

Having failed to connect to our brand new Ganglion board using either BLE or with our buildings WiFi network, I was finally able to see the WiFi board in the OpenBCI GUI using the direct WiFi mode.  But when I open the WiFi configuration panel and click on OPENBCI board, the GUI claims there is no Ganglion connected.

I have both boards powered separately from a 5V 2A supply and the D4 LED flashes away happily on both boards.  This I assume shows
the Ganglion's pulse.

I gather that my firmware might be out of date (though I only purchased
the boards a week ago).  Could this really be the case?

Should I attempt to update the WiFi firmware first?
Where do I learn how to update the firmware on the Ganglion board?
I see from post: http://openbci.com/forum/index.php?p=/discussion/1579/could-not-connect-to-wifi-shield-have-latest-firmware that updates can cause issues.

P.S.  I note that if I have the WiFi board connected to the Ganglion, with the EXT PWR off, the WiFi board will not connect when switched on if the Ganglion board is not switched on also.
P.S.S. Curious as to why the Ganglion uses 3.0V regulators when all the devices on board that I've checked seem to be 3.3V tolerant.

  • Hi!! Sorry for the late reply, please update the firmware of the WiFi shield!

  • Wifi update successful but it still reports that no board is attached.
The Wifi firmware version had been v2.03 and is now v2.05
D2 and D3 are on continuously and D4 flashes at about once a second.

I note in the tutorial that it says to turn the WiFi board on first, but until the Ganglion is turned on, D3 flashes madly and the small LED near the antenna also flashes. D2 remains off.  As soon as I turn the Ganglion on, the WiFi comes good.

I borrowed a windows10 machine and (after standing on my head and using magic crystals) I finally connected using BLE. I shall post my method on http://openbci.com/forum/index.php?p=/discussion/962/gui-can-t-find-ganglion-ble-on-windows-10 as those posts helped me indirectly.  Regarding the WiFi issue, can I use the BLE connection to check anything such as firmware version?

I would rather use WiFi for our application, so I hope you can help.
