WiFi Shield including GUI LSL widget, not compatible with OpenViBE Acquisition Server?

edited April 2018 in Wifi Shield
Hi,

Currently I am using Bluetooth dongle in combination with Cyton + Daisy (16ch) to connect to the OpenVibe Acquisition Server.

However, I would like to increase the sampling rate and that is only possible using WiFi Shield.

I have noticed that the Wifi shield is not supported by Acquisition Server and also that LSL from OpenBCI GUI does not work with WiFi shield, so I was wondering if there is a way to connect these two platforms currently?

Best,
Aleks

    Aleks, hi.

Saw this related thread where AJ @pushtheworld commented,

But it seems to me that streaming Cyton + Wifi data through the GUI, and then out via the LSL widget -- APPEARS like it should work in principle. My guess is that this is more an issue with the LSL widget than a wifi shield concern. Wifi shield talks to the GUI just fine. I've heard AJ mention on other threads that the LSL widget needs some tuneups and enhancements.

AJ, should Aleks open an issue on the GUI Github?

I see there are already three issues open concerning the LSL widget.

    William

  • I tried to use the LSL widget and everything freezes?! In any case, maybe the best solution would be to implement support for Acquisition Server for OpenVibe that can directly be used with WiFi Shield. In my opinion, apart from the main purpose for BCI real-time processing, OpenVibe is also a good framework for data acquisition, since it supports multiple formats, visualisation, marker insertions and more.

    Aleks, thanks.

The easiest option looks to be fixing the bug in the LSL widget. Can you append your comments to the related issue below and add a link to this thread? AJ is more likely to see those posts.

Have you tried running the GUI from Processing directly, rather than the standalone?

  • I feel like the wifi shield should work to LSL. is that not the case? an issue should be opened for this at once if that is something i can fix.
  • I will test it more extensively next days and write here if it works or not. What I know for sure is that v3.2.0 freezes the GUI when I want to start LSL streaming on standalone app.

@a1eks, can you update this thread. The freeze problems were determined to be an issue with the standalone (code signing conflicts) with old releases. Code signing should be fixed now. But any freeze issues will always be resolved by running the GUI and Hub from Processing IDE.
