Odd Behavior: All Channels pulsing every 1-4 seconds

I finally got my 16 channel Cyton/Daisy and Mark IV up and working and I'm noticing an odd behavior in the data. It doesn't happen every time I use the system, and restarting seems to help but seems to occur about 80% of the time.

Every couple of seconds all channels peak-out and recover, and repeats over and over.

Is this common? known error-state? would a firmware update help?

Link below is a screen shot (peaks at -5.5, -4, -2.25, -.75 sec)

Can you try operating in different locations, another room, building, etc.? EEG is sensitive to EMF electromagnetic field pollution and could be picking up noise from your environment. Position your equipment at least several feet away from power cords, power bricks, other wifi gear, etc.

  • Same thing happens to me. I haven't been able to figure out what the issue is. I was planning on doing some modifications to things and updating the firmware to do this: https://github.com/WinslowStrong/OpenBCI_Wired_USB but I wanted to make sure things were running fine first with default stuff. I am still running on the old firmware.

By 'old firmware' do you mean V1 or V2? When was your board purchased?

Have you tried the suggestions above about different locations, or different laptop / OS, etc.?

My 2c. Not that I know much yet, but I live rural and electric fences follow patterns you are describing. Long shot but still valid... If you live rural   ;)
  • v2.0.0 firmware rather than v2.0.1, and BasilBlunt, I am very much living in a city. I got the board in November, so it came with it on it. It also happens when I am in other rooms as well, as far as I have been able to figure out. This is on my laptop's battery power as well as plugged in, and on another computer as well.

I can't remember if I always had the issue. I seem to remember this not happening when I first got things set up, but I haven't changed any firmware stuff since then or done anything fancy other than the default setup. It could just be that I wasn't paying as close attention to the signals as I am not though, and just didn't see it.

When you are running your tests are there any wifi or cell phone devices nearby, such as in your pocket, etc.? Is wifi enabled on the laptop? Just taking guesses as to where the EMF interference may be coming from. Are you near a cell phone tower / antenna? Urban areas are bristling with cell transmitters on many building tops, utility poles, etc.

Try a location not just a room away but possibly another building.

    Mentioning Joel @biomurph and @Conor

@gerti004 and @flyingcube, when did you purchase / receive your kits. Is there any kind of serial number or order number on your invoice?

    Regards,

I'm in the suburbs, I can pickup neighbor's wifi so i'll have to go on a field trip to find a no-signal area.

I bought it on 6 June 2016, the Invoice ID was  c7733219267.1

New GUI works only with new firmware? 8bit boards are not suported by new GUI?

UPDATE: After debugging for a bit the majority, but not all, of those spikes are attributed to the lights in my house (compact fluorescent bulbs).
