8-bit availability

Hi,

I see that the 8-bit version was removed from the store.

When will it be available or is it EOL?

Thx,

  • Is it something wrong with the 8-bit version? Why did you let go of that idea?
  • But why?

There are a number of reasons why we have removed the 8bit Board. The short answer is that all of the units we had made with funds from our Kickstarter have been sold out! Also, it is not very easy for us to maintain two versions of the hardware. The 32bit Board was more popular, and chipKIT will soon be compatible with Arduino IDE.
We will still continue to provide support the 8bit Board users that are out there.
  • Curious what the fixation with the Arduino IDE is?
I switched some of my work from PICs to cheap Arduino boards and the Arduino IDE was REALLY disappointing to me.  It just doesn't have any of the modern IDE features I've grown to rely on, and is frankly somewhat ugly on top of that.
I'm using Atmel Studio now, which is OK, and much better than the Arduino IDE, but neither are as nice as MPLAB X, IMHO.
