RFduino firmware flash, which Arduino IDE version ?

With Arduino ide version 1.8.16, can I upload firmware?
Why does the official website specify that Arduino ide version 1.5.8 is required to upload firmware?

    I mean uploading the wireless firmware of the dongle.

    First, there should be no need to reflash the RFduino firmware, unless there is some issue with the RFduinos.

    The old version is needed to be compatible with custom RFduino GZLL library code, developed for OpenBCI by RF Digital.
