Recently purchased a ganglion and Bluetooth dongle, thinking the setup tutorial would actually be the extent of the setup necessary to use it. Attempting to install on an hp x360 laptop with usb 4.0, win10. After a round of emails, was referred to post here.
I’m very frustrated at this point. After installing all of the recommended software to replace my original drivers as per above video, noble errors out when trying to discover my Bluetooth devices. “Module not found” loader.js:1140:19.
I’m not inclined to run this down on the noble github, especially as my plan was to eventually use multiple ganglions on multiple computers and all I foresee is more issues.
Can I upgrade the ganglion to a cyton? I realize this is a sales question but they told me to post here.
...or can someone send a link to some moderately priced laptops that will actually work?
I'm not sure this is the most relevant thread. Most of the previous comments are obsolete. They date from the time when the Ganglion tutorial was specifying use of the CSR dongle. This is now bad advice and obsolete.
Do you have the BLED112 dongle that goes with Ganglion? You can read the BLED112 label on the exposed metallic usb connector of the dongle.
The actual tutorial is HERE, which shows use of the BLED112 dongle. If you have the older CSR dongle, discard it.
Yes, I have the BLED112 that came with the ganglion. I purchased recently and followed the getting started in your link when it arrived. The GUI wouldn’t recognize my ganglion so I emailed for help. They responded that GUI 5.0 was released that day and should fix the problem. It didn’t. They then referred me to the forums.

Which is regarding the obsolete CSR dongle. The BLED112 dongle is NOT a Bluetooth device, but instead appears as a serial port. If you have followed the obsolete instructions regarding 'Zadig' / drivers / replacing drivers, etc. All that is old information, and whatever you did there, needs to be reversed.
I see the bled112, but it’s listed as “bluegiga Bluetooth low energy (com3).” As you describe, it appears and disappears as dongle is plugged/unplugged.
( I have since tested on another laptop and ganglion shows up in the GUI and I can start session just fine, but would still like to get this laptop working with the ganglion.)

Tucson, great. That means that all OpenBCI hardware is working fine (mainboard and dongle).
Previously you commented on the fact that you followed now obsolete instructions (earlier posts in this thread), that were intended for the old CSR dongle. Such as installing 'Zadig', reconfiguring drivers, etc. Is that true? Previously quoted:

If some drivers, COM port, or Bluetooth configurations were altered, this might be blocking the normal operation of the BLED112. Previously I suggested above that "All that is old information, and whatever you did there, needs to be reversed." Have you looked into this? Windows has the ability to restore OS settings to a previous point in time.
Yes, I’m glad the openbci equipment is functioning!
I did follow the obsolete instructions and install zadig, etc.. but only after the ganglion wasn’t showing up in GUI. I have since re-installed windows to factory settings via the backup partition and the problem is identical to what was going on before I made the mistake of following this thread.
OK, then I would begin to suspect the usb system on your laptop. You say the BLED112 dongle appears / disappears from Device Manager (COM ports) when plugged / unplugged. So the COM port should be there. Are you using the GUI feature that automatically selects the COM port? I assume so, that is the default. There is also a button on the connect screen that allows you to specify the COM port manually. Based on what you see in Device Manager. Try that. Let me know if that works. I assume you are running the latest GUI v5.
Yes the BLED112 shows up as a Bluegiga BLE device, even though it is operates through a serial port.

This might be a way to "back out" the previous mistaken driver mods that you made.
