Irregular spontaneous noise
Hi,
We did not until recently that we detect some irregular, spontaneous noise in Cyton that occurs from time to time. We checked that there was only minimal packet loss. The noise appears regardless of whether or not we connect with a subject. Please see pictures below, in which the Cyton was not connected to a subject. It is unlikely powerline noise. What might it be?
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!
Michael

Michael, hi.
MANY types of electrical equipment in the proximity of your setup, can result in EMF ElectroMagnetic Field induced EEG noise: extension cords, power supplies, conduits in (walls, floors, ceilings), wireless equipment, cellular towers, LED / CFL lighting, etc.
The simplest strategy is to see if moving your equipment to another room or area, reduces the noise. You can also obtain EMF meters online that can locate directionally where the source might be. But these are generally expensive and not always easy to operate. Some have an audio output feature which can be helpful for narrowing the direction (sound gets louder as you approach). There are a few phone apps that can act as meters, and requires that your phone have a built-in magnetometer (compass).
