I have recorded few session using 16-ch openBCI GUI v.5.1.0. After the few recording session, when I checked the data folder, it misses the playback file which is in txt format usually. Also the csv files have no header in it. I don't know what data correspond to what.
Also, can I convert csv file to playback files, although csv files have missing header ?

    Hi, Lunar,

On this other recent thread, you mentioned that you were using a 'Cyton', not manufactured by OpenBCI, a 'clone'. Which was actually malfunctioning. Only half the channels because of a defective ADS1299 chip:

    https://openbci.com/forum/index.php?p=/discussion/3412/why-i-dont-see-the-data-for-the-rest-of-the-channels

    Is this still the case?

The GUI may be getting confused by the defective hardware.

    Hey @wjcroft,
Yes you are absolutely right. The thing is it was recording the data before as expected. It was creating playback file as txt along with the CSV file but now it doesn't do that anymore. Previous sessions, prior to the last ones had all the files. If you need, I can share the files here recorded from the same hardware from two different sessions.
Also, can I create those playback files from the CSV? because CSV are unsupported format for playback.

Mentioning Richard @retiutut, do you have any suggestions?

@lunarbrain, have you changed any other variables between the current failures and when this worked previously? Are you using the same GUI version, same OS, etc. Can you try other GUI versions?

  • Yes, I have used the same GUI for all sessions. Although, there was an option to update the GUI but when I clicked it said, I have the latest version.

To try other version, I will update you.

    Please list your OS.

  • Hey,
I am using windows 11 22H2, OS Build 22621.1194, Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22638.1000.0

  • @wjcroft @retiutut any help?
I dont mind converting CSV data to playback file, if some can tell me how to do it.

  • Thank you everyone. I was able to convert those CSV file into playback file with the help of python and some manual copy pasting.
@wjcroft on the other note, I tried the older of openBCI GUI version but couldn't connect my board with it. Only 5.1.0 version is able to connect with my hardware but again no data is getting recorded with playback file.

@wjcroft @retiutut Just one minor update for you guys to look into the issue.

    Update :

    1. Data is getting saved in both Brinflow CSV and Open BCI txt file for playback
    2. I didn't see the playback in the folder because I was choosing custom location to save the recorded data, not the default location.
    3. Recorded data in Brainflow file was getting saved in the custom location on my computer but OpenBCI playback file was getting save in the default location as mentioned in the documentation

Method 1: Offline Import of CSV file from the OpenBCI GUI
To get started, use your OpenBCI board (like the Cyton or Ganglion board) and the OpenBCI GUI to stream some data. Whenever you stream data to the GUI, it's also automatically saved in .csv format on your computer. GUI recordings are saved to [USER]/Documents/OpenBCI_GUI/Recordings/ on all operating systems. The OpenBCI Processing GUI saves data in text (txt) or comma-separated value (CSV) files.

Thank you both of you. Please check if this is new OpenBCI GUI problem.

Can you please clarify, your original post said you were MISSING the CSV files. In your final comment, you realize they were there all along.

So there is NO ISSUE with the files the GUI is producing.

Yes, they were getting saved but in two different location. When I selected the custom location to save the recordings, only the Brainflow files were getting saved in custom location but the playback OpenBCI txt file was getting saved in the default location[USER]/Documents/OpenBCI_GUI/Recordings/ .

What I wanted to bring your attention to is, the custom location selection for recording data isn't working for OpenBCI playback file.

Can you create a new Issue on this page? Mentioning Richard @retiutut.

    Thanks,

  • okay. Done!

  • Happy to contribute :)

It is not possible in GUI 5.1.0 to save GUI Recording files anywhere but [User]/Documents/OpenBCI_GUI. This simplifies the location of all saved data for all users. We only allow users the option to rename the Session folder.

It does seem possible to save a BrainFlow CSV file to a custom location on the hard drive using the BrainFlow Streamer, but this is an advanced feature.
